Curriculum

Arturo Azcorra graduated in 1980 from Loy-Norrix High School, Michigan. He received his Telecommunication Engineering degree from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in 1986, and the Doctor degree in 1989 from the same University. In 1992 he graduated as Master in Bussiness Administration from Instituto de Empresa, one of the most prestigious Business School in the World.

He has been an associate professor at the Telematics Systems Engineering Department (DIT) of UPM since 1990 until 1998, when he moved to Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, where he currently is a full professor. He has been also a professor in the Programa de Postgrado of UPM, and in different programs of the Escuela de Organización Industrial, as well as member of the Academic Comittee of Master en Comercio Electronico of Univ. Carlos III.

He has participated in the management of Univ. Carlos III through different posts and activities: he has served as deputy Vice-Provost, Department Director, member of the university board, and member of the councils of the Departament, the School of Engineering and the University.

On 2006 he was appointed the Director of the International Research Institute IMDEA Networks, a very relevant research institution in Europe.

On the professional area, Arturo Azcorra is an IEEE Communications Society Senior Member, an Internet Society member, an ACM-SIGCOMM member, a founding member of the Association for Telematics, and also president of the said Association.

He has participated in a large number of European research projects in the frame of ESPRIT, RACE, COMETT, Telematics, ACTS, IST and ICT programs. Among them, he has been the coordinator of the E-NEXT NoE EU Network of Excellence (45 member institutios), the CONTENT NoE EU Network of Excellence (11 member institutions) and CARMEN EU Project. Consulting activities carried out include companies and organizations such as the European Space Agency, Repsol, RENFE (national railway company), Comunidad Autonoma de Madrid (regional government), Ministry of Science, Ministry of Industry, WorldCom-MFS, Servicom and Ericsson Telebit.
