Leganés Fountain in a roundaboutThe city of Leganés is a part of the Madrid metropolitan area. It is a young and dynamic city of 179000 inhabitants, one of the biggest municipalities in the southern metropolitan area of the capital, which altogether totals more than a million inhabitants.

Few cities in the Community of Madrid have managed industrialization and economic growth like Leganés, which currently enjoys an excellent provision of hospitals, schools and training centres, assistance services and residential, leisure and commercial areas and nearly four million m2 of green areas, parks and gardens.

It is one of the cities with the longest industrial tradition in Madrid and features strong economic growth:

·        30% growth in gross available income for inhabitants between 1994 and 1999

·        Seven business parks already up and running and four more in development

·        Active population of over 80000 people

·        6,7 million m2 aimed at production activities (including projects)

·        Presence of small, medium and large enterprises representing most economic and industrial sectors

Leganés enjoys a strategic geographic position, extensive and efficient transport and communications network both within the city and with connections to other cities and Madrid via train, subway and bus. The city boast a modern municipal management strongly aimed at facilitating the development of business networks, aware of the how important businesses are to the economic and social growth of the city.

How to reach Leganés or Madrid-Atocha from the Airport

To reach Madrid or Leganés you have to take a flight to Madrid-Barajas airport.

Best trip solutions

  • By Public transport to Madrid-Atocha:

Madrid-Atocha train station (modern part)When you arrive at the Barajas airport you have to take the subway (called Metro) line 8, located at the end of the upper floor and then left. Buy a MetroMadrid single ticket (1€)

Take its line 8 (pink line) direction 'Nuevos Ministerios' and get off in that station (the last). Make a connection with the line 10 (dark blue line) direction 'Puerta del Sur' and get off in the 'Tribunal' stop. Then make another connection to the line 1 (light blue line) direction 'Congosto'.

If your hotel is near Atocha train station, you have to get off in 'Atocha' station.

 

 

·        By Public transport direct to Leganés:

When you arrive at the Barajas airport you have to take the subway (called Metro) line 8, located at the end of the upper floor and then left. Buy a combined-Metro ticket (1,50€).

Take its line 8 (pink line) direction 'Nuevos Ministerios' and get off in that station (the last). Make a connection with the line 10 (dark blue line) direction 'Puerta del Sur' and get off in the last station (Puerta del Sur). Then make another connection to the line 12 (green-yellowed line) direction 'San Nicasio'.

The university and many of the hotels are in the 'Leganes central' station. If you reside in the 'Hotel ParqueSur' you have to get off in the 'El Carrascal' station and, if your hotel is the 'NH Leganés', exit in 'Casa del Reloj'.

 

  • By taxi

Get out the Barajas airport and go to the main gate where the taxies wait for customers. If you arrive in the rush hour maybe you'll have to stand in a queue. Give/Show the taxi driver the address of your hotel/university.

How to reach Leganés from Madrid-Atocha station

 

  • By public transport (suburban train)

Get into the train station of Madrid-Atocha and look for the 'Cercanías' service (straight and left inside the station). Buy a ticket to go to the Leganés station. Go to the platforms of C-5 line direction 'Fuenlabrada' a catch the train. Get off in Leganés station.

 

  • By taxi

Order a taxi by raising your hand towards the taxi car (white cars with a red band in the lateral). Remember that available taxies have a green light on their top. Give/Show the taxi-driver the address of the university.
